Peters said the province typically does provide some support for this type of investment – foreign direct investment – that results in net new dollars coming into Ontario from elsewhere in Canada, or from another country. “The goal is to secure provincial funding for this project,’’ Peters said, explaining a water park resort would have a regional impact benefitting other attractions already here, a g enerational opportunity he said “would have significant positive impact not only locally, but throughout eastern Ontario, including Ottawa, Brockville, Kingston, and notably Upper Canada Village and the Parks of the St. Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP Nolan Quinn has expressed support for the project, as has Cornwall Mayor Justin Towndale. In the meantime, and already, Peters said there will be more provincial-level meetings between senior officials and Great Wolf representatives. Peters said the resort would have upwards of five restaurants, improved in-room services, and local residents would be able to purchase day passes for the facility. The Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls, Ont., is owned and operated by The Jim Pattison Group, which has exclusive franchise rights to the brand in Canada. Peters noted it would be the company’s first corporately-owned resort in Canada, that the most updated, state-of-art facility would be built here, with expanded offerings on some of the company’s earlier resorts.
